Basketball was started in 1891, by Dr. James Naismith. On a rainy day, he decided to create a game to keep his class active. Dribbling was not part of the game until the 1950’s! The game is played with two teams and each has the same goal: get the ball in the hoop. They get 2 points for every shot, unless they are behind the 3 point line, then they get 3 points. If a foul is committed, then they get one point for each basket made. Peach baskets were used until 1906, when they were replaced by hoops and a backboard.
