Tennis is a wonderful sport. It is played all over the world and really keeps you in shape. Tennis was started in the mid 1800s, and played on the lawn. Later, it was played on clay and then concrete. Amazingly, the rules have not changed much since the early 1900s. The game is played in a number of sets that break down into games. A set consist of 6 games. If a player wins 6 games first, then he/she wins the set. When a player wins 2 sets of a 3 set competition, they win the match. If it is a 5 set match, then the player must win 3 of 5 sets.
Scoring is: 0 (or “love”), 15, 30, 40, and game. If one player scores a point, then they are awarded 15 points. Then, another 15 points is awarded to make it 30. So, if the server or the returning player scores twice in a row the score would be 30/love. Then, another 10 points is awarded for 40 and then game for the last point. Matches, games, and sets must win by at least 2 scoring points.
So, if it is tied 40/40 (deuce), then the next person to score gets an advantage point. If they score again, they win the game, switch turns serving, and start a new game.
